Day 80 | Arizona | Page | Grand Canyon Day

As the name suggests, today was Grand Canyon day! Thankfully after yesterday’s crazy weather today was all blue skies!

From where we were staying in Page, we had about a two hour drive to the Grand Canyon. The time passes pretty quickly with the scenery we have to look at. I know I keep saying it but Utah/Arizona have some pretty awe inspiring scenery. There is just something about these big striated red ‘rocks’ popping out of the ground all over the place.

I won’t lie, for some reason the idea of the Grand Canyon didn’t excite me as much as it probably should have. I think it’s because there have been so many images of it around, plus it features in so many movies that I think it lacked the element of surprise and intrigue. Added to that was the fact that is super touristy, I mean I think they might even have a McDonalds at the Grand Canyon Village!!

The Grand Canyon

However, it was very impressive. We decided to not do any hikes or anything around the canyon, but rather just observed it from some of the millions of observation points. I do think that getting down into the actual canyon and feeling the expanse from below would definitely heighten your experience here.

As far as they eye can see!

We hung out at one of the picnic tables near a view point for lunch (must take a photo of lunch one day to prove to everyone that we aren’t eating as unhealthy as it may seem! Most days we have cereal & fruit for breakfast & pack our own lunch (today was salad wraps) it just doesn’t gain ‘blog’ status as is not particularly exciting ;-)), viewed the canyon some more and then were on our way.

Obligatory Grand Canyon selfie, not the best photo but you have to do it!

Back in Page we headed to Big John’s Texas BBQ for dinner, because with a name like that, you just have to do it! Our first dabble into BBQ since we have been here and it was pretty darn tasty!
