Our big drive yesterday was certainly worth it this morning when we got to awake to the most incredible view of Monument Valley!
We jumped in the car pretty quickly so we could get up close to these awesome rocks. At Monument Valley we got to do a drive out and around them all. Was very surprising how many ‘monuments’ there actually were. They seemed to go on for ages.
Whilst we didn’t do this, there is a spot where you can pay to have the ‘John Wayne’ experience and ride out to the iconic John Wayne/Monument Valley spot on a horse to have your photo taken! Love it!
Looking at them all was pretty incredible, though have to admit the image they cut into the horizon from far away is the best.
After all the comments Anthony has been getting to Forrest Gump, driving out from Monument Valley we got to have some fun and take his Forrest Gump lookalike-ness to the next level 😉
Continuing up the highway, we did a quick stop past ‘Mexican Hat’, then on to Twin Rocks Cafe for some lunch.
Our destination for the night was Cortez, heading there we realised we could take a short detour to the ‘Four Corners’ which is the meeting of the four states of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado, the only place where four states meet in the USA.
We then continued back on track to Cortez to our Super 8 accommodation. Once checked in we went to check out the local brewery – Main Street Brewery for a couple of drinks and challenging each other with American Trivial Pursuit questions. Not surprisingly we didn’t do to well.
Then off to the grocery store and ‘home’ for a dodgy noodle dinner and a bit of an early night as the Husbando has started to come down with the man flu 😦
