Day 137 | Canada | Niagara | Across the Border Again

This morning we headed out to Niagara. I had found us a couple of sights to see along the way…today I failed! LOL!

Theoretically there is a waterfall called Triphammer Falls which is about an hour or so away from Ithaca…NOPE! Apparently this waterfall is actually in Ithaca and there is a road called Triphammer that Google said has Triphammer Falls along it. But it’s fine!! There is another state park right near where we are that has some other waterfalls, so it’s not a wasted trip…NOPE! We headed into Letchworth State Park and of course, winter AKA all the roads to the waterfall area is closed so we could drive into a short section of the park, see a dam and that’s about it.

In his attempt to save the day Anthony tracked down the Yancey’s Fancy/Kutters cheese company for us to try some cheeses. It was more of a shop that sold cheese than a cheesery but still we purchased a couple of items to take away with us.

Then onward to Niagara!!

We stopped on the USA side on our way through. We had heard that the Canadian side was where it was at but still we had to check out both to see what the go was.

First impressions were that Niagara was not what I expected. Firstly there are two sections to the falls, there was the American Falls and then Horseshoe Falls. Secondly, they seemed a little smaller than I was expecting and third I couldn’t believe how built up the area around them is, I mean there are flashing lights and casinos on both sides of the river. I think I’m just so used to seeing waterfalls in the middle of national or state parks with nothing else around.

First glimpses – you can see the Horseshoe Falls in the background

On the USA side you get close up views of the American Falls but from where we were you couldn’t really see the Horseshoe Falls. We spent a little while looking around and taking photos from various point before continuing across the border.

As we were walking back to our car of course I again got distracted by all the cute little squirrels! These squirrels were unbelievably friendly, while I was trying to get up close to take some photos another squirrel started running up my leg!! It was hilarious! We stood around for awhile and several squirrels did the same thing running up and down our legs – of course I thought this was amazing! Though was a little concerned they might bite me and give me rabies or something! Ha ha!

My favourites! You need to refer to my Facebook or Instagram for the video of the climbing squirrel 😉

Dragging ourselves away we then headed across the border. This border crossing was significantly easier than our one from Washington to Vancouver. I can imagine these guys would get pretty sick of people heading across the border for only one day or less before heading back!!

Tonight we were staying at the Niagara Grandview Manor a cute little B&B. Seemed a little fancy for us but everything in Niagara seems to be quite cheap. I can imagine in Summer this place would be pumping!!

Given it was starting to get dark we wanted to wait until tomorrow to make our first views of the Horseshoe Falls to be the best they can be! So we headed downtown to Niagara Brewing Company for a couple of beers. As they love pumpkin over here I had to try the Pumpkin Pie Spiced beer. Pumpkin pie consumed we headed to Antica Pizzeria & Ristorante for dinner.

Chucking the sads because I ordered what he wanted to order!! Bahaha!

Back at our hotel we tried to tune into at least a little bit of the Triple J Hottest 100, make a few calls before eventually crashing out.
